'Existence' is a piece about my grandmother.

As a highly sensitive person she sometimes felt overwhelmed by life, and then she tuned out, became absent-minded.
Her daughter Maria wrote a beautiful poem about her being present, at the same time feeling her absence.

This song is based on her poem:

'Do I truly exist?'

It's raining.

The mother is stirring apples through the red cabbage. The child is looking at her shy, stubborn back.

'Do I truly exist?' the child asks.

The mother isn't listening.

She is dreaming about a man that gives her flowers at the same time she imagines an island in the ocean.

'Do I truly exist?' the child asks again.

'Air bubbles appear on the puddles. There is going to be an evening rain', the mother says.

RAINFOREST

This is a musical poem honoring the Earth: her richness, abundance and playfulness.

Her aliveness, fruitfulness and forgiveness towards us.

An ode to the heart of the rainforest representing the untouched sense of self of our planet.

NOCTURNE

Nocturne is a soothing piece, some sort of a dance.
It describes the feeling of a soft twilight, a summer night: walking outside, hearing the sound of crickets.

Ego, you're a little child. You need a parent.

Somebody who knows what you really want

who gives you boundaries

and the safety of a listening ear

so that you can become a playful child again.

Don't be afraid of the world;

I'll be there for you, little Me.

I'll parent you

You can play with the other children in me

you will grow up amongst them

and you will slowly get to know yourself.

  Fear

Pain is fear

It doesn't feel like fear

Since fear disguises itself

Because we are so afraid

Yes, that’s the only answer

Because we fear fear

Which hides deep within us

Like it’s at home there

As if it's at ease there

We carry fear with us

Like it’s normal

As if we don’t know any better

Then maybe

Bit by bit

We can understand

The essence of fear

And when we truly see

It seems cristalline

We can pass through

Without force

Without action

It may well be

That the fear that

Is rooted so deeply

But the curious

Wants to know and see

Searches

We can search

If we are open

And honest with ourselves

If we gaze with love

At fear

Which has been hiding

Time and again

Life after life

Within us

Which we are used to

Which we even hold dear

That that fear

Suddenly takes flight

Into the space

And we gaze

Into that space

And then we will

Bit by bit

Feel what space is

BEGINNING

This piece is both about the beginning of a new life, and about every new beginning, the challenge to begin something new.

A beginning can sometimes be a struggle, and sometimes it has a flow to it, and wonder. Most of us started our lives without consciously knowing where it would lead us to.

It is about the wonder of birth, and about giving birth in the figurative sense: moving into a new phase, starting a new project, trying to manifest a dream, the struggles and challenges 'to begin'.

How to make the first steps?

This piece is a musical research into insecurity,

capability - can I do it? - ,

doubt - am I on the right path?'

curiosity.

As humans we need to begin a lot: each time we are invited to go into the unknown.
